The the last episode of  “Love in the Wild”, the contestants had a chance to experience the beach scene for the first time with a challenge centered around the village of Cahuita, in the south Caribbean region of Costa Rica.
Known for its laid back feel, approximately 43 km south of the Port of Limon, this small village of Costa Rica is slowly showing up on the radar of tourists who are looking for something a little different, and Cahuita is certainly that.
The small town is home to about 4,000 residents who are mainly of Jamaican decent. The majority of residents are black and speak an African-Creole English. As seen in the Love in the Wild episode, they also look like the traditional Rastafarians.
The beaches in this area are spectacular, a combination of white and black sand and are picture perfect.  East of the town is the white sand beach which is located within the Cahuita National Park. Quieter than other regions of Costa Rica, its a great place to snorkel with its spectacular coral reef which separates the Cahuita area from Playa Negra. Considered to be the finest coral reef in Costa Rica, there is so much marine life to see you may never want to go home. If swimming is what you want, Playa Negra on the northwest end of Cahuita is where you should be. The black sand beach will definitely leave an impression.
If you want to take in some activities, the area is most noted for its butterfly garen. The Mariposario de Cahuites is a great place to relax and enjoy some of the beautiful butterflies.
And while in Cahuita, you will need to experience the food, which is unlike anything you will taste. The Afro-Caribbean cuisine is so much different than the traditional Tico fare. Jerk meats, curried chicken and goat are the mainstay of this village and need to be experienced during your visit.
Don’t forget to pack you swimsuit and bring your snorkelling goggles. This small village will leaving a big impression while you vacation in Costa Rica.
